On November 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with leaders visiting Baku for the COP29 summit, including Patrice Emery Trovoada, Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe; Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of Guinea-Bissau; and Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of Suriname.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to the President of Zimbabwe for attending COP29.

Stressing the significance of the visit at this level in bilateral relations, President Ilham Aliyev stated that there are great opportunities to establish strong cooperation between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe.

The head of state noted that the visit of the President of Zimbabwe to Azerbaijan created an excellent opportunity to discuss the prospects for the bilateral agenda.

Expressing his gratitude for the kind words, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.

He congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the presidential election, describing it as a demonstration of the people's trust in the President.

The meeting highlighted the strong political relations between the two countries, emphasized the importance of strengthening the mechanism for political consultations, and noted the role the economic aspect could play in the development of cooperation. The two leaders hailed effective cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international organizations.

They acknowledged that developing countries are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and discussed cooperation in this area, as well as in the field of renewable energy.

During the conversation, the Presidents emphasized the importance of establishing a working group to develop cooperation in agriculture, education, and other areas, as well as organizing reciprocal visits of delegations.

The head of state mentioned that the visit of the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe to Azerbaijan marked the first such visit in bilateral relations and emphasized its significance.

Expressing his gratitude for the kind words, Prime Minister Patrice Emery Trovoada noted that the beauty of Baku had made a strong impression on them.

He conveyed his congratulations on Victory Day and highlighted the importance of ensuring peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for paying special attention to the problems of small island states at the COP, adding that Azerbaijan had demonstrated a leadership role in this regard.

Expressing hope that COP29 would produce effective results, the President of Azerbaijan noted that a separate summit on small island states would be held. President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted that Azerbaijan had provided financial support to small island states through the Commonwealth association and would offer further support for collecting and analyzing information on the impact of climate change on these states through Azercosmos.

During the conversation, the sides discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Azerbaijan's strong experience in this field and pointed out that such expertise would be of interest to his country. In this regard, both sides highlighted the importance of an upcoming visit by the Azerbaijani delegation to the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe to discuss joint projects on the ground.

The President of Guinea-Bissau expressed his gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan for the excellent organization of COP29 and the hospitality extended to him, expressing confidence that the event would be a success.

During the meeting, the sides first discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and exchanged views on the support and provision of scholarships for training engineers and medical specialists from Guinea-Bissau in various fields.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan supports this area by allocating grants to member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They also explored the potential for providing grants to students from Guinea-Bissau.

The conversation also covered the expansion of economic and commercial relations, the organization of reciprocal visits of delegations, and the holding of political negotiations through their foreign ministers.

On November 10, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname.

Expressing his satisfaction with the meeting with the President of Suriname, the head of state thanked Chandrikapersad Santokhi for accepting the invitation to attend the COP29 event, emphasizing that this marks the first high-level official visit in bilateral relations. The President of Azerbaijan noted that this visit provides an excellent opportunity to exchange views on the prospects for bilateral ties and expressed hope that it would yield productive results.

The President of Suriname expressed gratitude for the kind words and emphasized the honor of meeting with the Azerbaijani President. He acknowledged President Ilham Aliyev's leadership in the COP29 process and thanked him for organizing such a prestigious event. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi stated that the presidency of COP is a challenging task but emphasized that Azerbaijan has shown leadership in this regard.

During the conversation, the two leaders reaffirmed the friendly relations between their countries’ peoples and noted the close cooperation between Azerbaijan and Suriname within international organizations, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The Presidents discussed cooperation in agriculture, food security, and education. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi highlighted the provision of scholarships to students from Suriname at Azerbaijan's higher education institutions and the establishment of cooperation between the two countries’ universities.

They agreed to organize reciprocal visits of delegations to advance issues related to the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Additionally, they exchanged views on the COP agenda and the cooperation between their countries within the COP, as well as in the field of renewable energy.
